The History of Critall Windows and Silver End:

In April 2016 the village of Silver End will be celebrating its 90th anniversary.
To mark the occasion Braintree District Museum will be holding a Crittall Windows reunion afternoon on Thursday 21 April, 2:30pm – 5:00pm focused around the history of the village.

The village was founded by Crittall Windows as a self-contained community for workers in the new Silver End Crittall factory and is a pioneering example of modernist design. These reunion events are always popular with former employees, and all interested parties are welcome.

Collections Manager, Claire Willetts will give a talk on the history of Silver End, exploring how the village was developed through the eyes of the Crittall Magazine from the Museum Archives. Visitors will also get the chance to look at artefacts from the Museum’s Crittall Windows archive including photographs, staff magazines, product catalogues and other materials.

Collections Manager Claire Willetts said, “ Silver End is an extremely interesting village, not only for its unique design and social history, but for the Crittall family’s utopian vision for the development. It is really exciting to be focusing on Silver End for our Crittall reunion this year and I look forward to meeting people interested or associated with the village’s history”
The event is free but it would be helpful to know numbers that are coming as light refreshments will be provided. Please give the Museum a call on 01376 328868 or email info@braintreemuseum.co.uk to book. For more information visit www.braintreemuseum.co.uk
