Top tips to help your pet through the festive period!

  1. Keep to your pets normal routine as best as you can - walks and playtime are still important
  2. Pets need their rest, if they go off to their bed or comfi place for a snooze just let them be
  3. Some pets find a houseful of guests a little overwhelming so look for signs of them being uncomfortable.  Pets talk to us through their body language and facial expressions, look out for signs of your pet getting worried - some of which are very subtle and when out of context eg licking their lips, holding a paw up or panting can be a sign of stress.  For dogs click here   Cats click here  Rabbits click here.
  4. Don't be tempted to overindulge with food, treats and titbits!  Its nice to let them join in but avoid giving them a human Christmas dinner! A little veg is fine, but without gravy.  A plate of unfamiliar food, while enjoyed, can upset their tummy and no-one wants a poorly pet or to be clearing vomit or diarrhoea on Christmas Day!
  5. There are many food, plants and products that are harmful to pets - and no more so than at Christmas!  Chocolate, onions, sweeteners or food containing sweeteners (containing xylitol), grapes and any derivatives of grapes (raisins, sultanas, currents etc...) are poisonous.  Poinsettia plants and Lilies too - especially in cats.   If your friends or family have pets avoid giving these as presents.  For a check list click here, or if you are concerned about your pet, please contact us or ring the Animal Poisons line, for details visit: https://www.animalpoisonline.co.uk/
